Wink Kept trying to get this 'Word,' but it's NOT A WORD

Weedless is a word - Weedlessness is NOT

..lol.. just wouldn't give up, but after typing it 3 times, my score wouldn't have tanked if I'd gone on to something else - or bailed

MegaWord and I have both posted similar complaints. Mostly, it's situations where a word ending in -NESSES is accepted, but the singular -NESS is not.

Default words

I'm not exactly Mensa material, but then again, I'm not an idiot either. With THAT said, I spend a lot of time looking up the meanings of certain words that I have never come across. Sometimes I get the impression that a few of the words are just "made up". But I know that isn't the case...

I don't know why neither of the following is a good word:
ableness
ablenesses

My best guess is that they aren't words because their meanings would be identical to the meanings of ability and abilities.

Question: for words ending in -bility or -bilities, are there any rules that determine whether the preceding letter is a or i? All I can do is guess when I see a possibility, although I've never seen a possability.
